The European multimission frigate (FREMM) ITS Carlo Margottini departed from the port of La margottini_interna_ENG.jpgSpezia to conduct a naval campaign in the Arabian Sea and in the Persian Gulf, with the aim of ensuring presence and maritime surveillance, strengthening ongoing cooperation activities with a number of trans-regional allies, and starting relationships with new potential partners, in the framework of the Italian Navy’s institutional tasks.

During the campaign, ITS Margottini will represent the Italian Navy at the Doha International Maritime Defence Exhibition & Conference, DIMDEX 18, which will take place in Doha, Qatar.

In the month of April, at the end of the campaign, the ship will join the EU-led counter-piracy operation Atalanta, as flagship of the Italian Force Commander.

The Frigate Carlo Margottini - commanded by Commander Giuseppe Lai – is the third Italian FREMM (European multimission frigate), and the second in ASW (Anti Submarine Warfare) version. Built at the Riva Trigoso (GE) shipyard and launched on 29 June 2013, the ship was delivered to the Italian Navy on 27 February 2014.

ITS Margottini will be engaged in the Gulf of Aden until next August 2018.
