Fortyseven years ago Italy was able to launch her first submarine after the Armistice signed with the Allies. Submarine Toti (SSK 506) was built at Italcantieri, Monfalcone, launched on March 12, 1967 and officially delivered to the Italian Navy on January 22, 1968.

First of four units to be entirely designed and constructed in Italy, submarine Toti was active in the Mediterranean for over thirty years. It has given the name to the class that included submarines Dandolo, Mocenigo and Bagnolini; and the SSK NATO designation indicates that it was intended to anti-submarine warfare.

The Italian Navy remembers the spirit of self-sacrifice and, professionalism of its commanding officers and crewmembers, as well as its reliability, efficiency; a shining example of the Italian engineering skills and resources.

On June 30, 1999, submarine Toti was decommissioned and is now exhibited at the Museo Nazionale della Scienza e della Tecnologia Leonardo da Vinci in Milan.
