Last Tuesday, June 10, at Palazzo della Marina (Rome) the Italian Navy celebrated its Navy Day.

These celebrations go back to March 13, 1939, when the Italian Navy meant to remember the June 10, 1918 Premuda undertaking when, during the WWI, Capt. Luigi Rizzo and Sub-lieutenant Giuseppe Aonzo, leading the "MAS 15" and "MAS 21," hit an Austrian naval formation in the waters near Premuda (Dalmatian coast), causing the sinking of the "Santo Stefano" battleship.

Moreover, this year is the 100th anniversary of WWI, where the Italian Navy’s contribution with its naval Air Force and submarines was of paramount importance.
