ITS Rizzo trains with aircraft carrier USS Eisenhower

On March 5, in the framework of the long-standing and fruitful air and naval cooperation with the US Navy, ITS Luigi Rizzo　concluded a joint exercise with Carrier Strike Group 2,　including guided-missile destroyer　USS Mitscher, guided-missile cruiser　USS Monterey, and aircraft carrier　USS "IKE" Eisenhower.

Heading for the　Gulf of Guinea, ITS　Rizzo met the US Carrier Strike Group off the coast of Morocco, and had the opportunity to conduct joint training activities at close range.

About 20 F/A-18E Super Hornet fighter aircraft took off one after another from the US aircraft carrier to welcome the sixth FREMM frigate of the Italian fleet joining the formation. ITS Rizzo ’s answer was not long in coming, starting immediately to take part in flight operations, with one of her SH-90s conducting take-off and landing activities on the flight deck of guided-missile destroyer　USS Mitscher.

During this fruitful joint training event for the two Navies, close kinematic manoeuvres were also conducted, thus showing full interoperability between the US Carrier Strike Group and the Italian Navy, represented by the FREMM frigate bearing the name of the hero of Premuda.

"It has been a pleasure and an honor to sail alongside your beautiful ship". With these words, the commanding officer of USS Eisenhower saluted the commanding officer of ITS Rizzo.
