ITS Carlo Bergamini, European Multi-Mission Frigate, ends her presence and surveillance activities to protect national interests and sea lines of communication off the coast of the Republic of Mozambique.

From 19 February to 6 March, the naval unit has patrolled the Mozambique Channel in order to protect national energy supply lines in the Indian Ocean, maritime security and national interests.

Frigate Bergamini conducted activities aimed at preventing and countering piracy and illicit trafficking by sea, providing maritime patrol as well as support and protection to national merchant ships transiting the area.

During the deployment, the crew maintained high readiness levels, seizing opportunities to simulate friendly approaches and counter-piracy actions with transiting vessels - in synergy with the embarked specialist teams – with the aim of testing procedures in different operational scenarios, manifesting their presence in the area, while detecting and preventing potential threats.

At the end of her patrol deployment, ITS Bergamini will join the EU Naval Force as flagship of the 40th Rotation of Operation ATALANTA.
