Joint training for IT Navy and US Navy Divers

Palombari of the Operational Divers Group (Gruppo Operativo Subacquei, GOS) of the Italian Navy COMSUBIN, along with personnel from the US Navy Mobile Diving and Salvage Unit 2, performed deep diving underwater works inside the Naval Logistics Support Base MARISUPLOG Messina.

From 24 September to 4 October 2024, the two teams conducted joint training activities focused on underwater operations, diving as deep as 55 metres in the clear waters of Messina harbour.

The activities offered a valuable opportunity for operators to significantly enhance their diving skills, including the use of new technologies. By simulating realistic scenarios, these exercises have improved their preparedness and ability to respond effectively in critical situations.

The training covered a variety of practical exercises, including wreck inspections and several underwater interventions, such as, for instance, hydrocarbon removal from tanks of sunken vessels to prevent environmental damage.
