Cooperation between Italian and Albanian Navies onboard ITS Chioggia

On March 1st, ITS Chioggia, under the command of Lieutenant Commander Andrea D'Onofrio, conducted a bottom survey activity within Albanian territorial waters, as part of Operation 'Fondali Sicuri' (Safe Seabeds). The operations, carried out in collaboration with the Albanian Navy, aimed to monitor the seabed and ensure the safety of the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP), a strategic infrastructure for our country's energy supply.

The Unit, integrated into the operation 'Mediterraneo Sicuro' (Safe Mediterranean) task force under the tactical command of Rear Admiral Massimo Bonu, hosted a representative from the Albanian Navy onboard, illustrating the procedures adopted for the surveillance of underwater infrastructures. The meeting represented an important opportunity for professional exchange, strengthening the relationship and cooperation between the two Navies and consolidating joint activities to protect maritime security.

The operation confirmed the key role of the Italian Navy in ensuring the protection of energy routes and critical underwater infrastructures, which are fundamental for the stability of the Euro-Mediterranean area. The synergy with the Albanian Navy is part of a broader framework of international cooperation, aimed at ensuring and promoting the security of strategic assets.
