Last Wednesday , May 14, a delegation of ambassadors from twelve countries were on board ITS’s Esploratore and Sentinella during a patrol mission carried out off the Sinai peninsula and the Straits of Tiran, as part of the Multinational Force and Observers (MFO) peace mission.

The delegation’s visit in the Sharm el-Sheikh region is part of an overall assessment of the security in relation to tourism dependent on local economy. The twelve nations involved have sent their representatives - in consultation with the south Sinai authorities - to the Arab Republic of Egypt to monitor the political climate on the eve of presidential elections.

The MFO representative in Egypt was accompanying the delegation as a testimony of the MFO commitment to guarantee stability in the region.

The Units of the Italian Coastal Naval Group Ten form the Coastal Patrol Unit, the sole maritime force engaged in this peace mission. During 4,500 hours a year, they patrol the area between Egypt and Israel, to guarantee freedom of navigation, as provided for in the agreement signed at the end of the Yom Kippur War.
