Last 14 August, LHD Trieste, multi-purpose amphibious unit of the Italian Navy, participated in an exercise in the Mediterranean with the Indian Navy's frigate INS Tamal. Both units have recently entered into service in their respective navies.

The exercise featured close quarters manoeuvres, communication drills, and joint and coordinated activities. Its main objectives were to improve interoperability, exchange operational procedures, and consolidate mutual understanding between the crews.

The presence of frigate INS Tamal in Italy, including its port call in Naples, was also a significant opportunity for diplomatic relations between the two countries. The exchange of onboard visits and official mementos between the crews symbolized the strong bilateral partnership and the shared will to strengthen naval cooperation.

With this exercise, Italy and India have renewed their collaboration in the field of maritime defence, strengthening their shared commitment to the stability and security of global maritime routes.
