"Another example of the Italian excellence, a wealth of men, women, skills and know-how our Country can be proud of.” These are the words uttered today by Italian Defense minister Mrs. Roberta Pinotti at the launching ceremony of the FREMM “Carabiniere” at Riva Trigoso before the Chief of Italian Staff, Admiral Giuseppe De Giorgi, Fincantieri CEO, Eng. Giuseppe Bono, as well as civil, military, religious and local authorities.

“Our Country,” added the Minister, “plays a key role in the Mediterranean, and this latest, state-of-the-art unit allows us to work in synergy with other NATO and EU naval forces.”

The minister also expressed her gratitude to the two Italian marines held in India: “Their dignity does honor our country and we are committed to a quick solution to their plight.”

Frigate Carabiniere has been designed as part of the Italian/French and program FREMM (Fregate Europe Multi-Missione) in order to renew the Italian Navy Maestrale and Lupo class units, and the French Marine Nationale Tourville and Montcalm.

On the occasion, the Carabinieri Corps, celebrating their 200th anniversary, issued a dedicated post stamp.
